Clean Marine Group Secures $10 Million Investment Led by Mirova Natural Capital to Advance Clean Port Development in The Bahamas
Clean Marine Group (CMG) is proud to announce the successful closing of a $10 million funding round led by Mirova Natural Capital, a pioneering impact investment firm focused on nature-based solutions. This major investment marks a significant milestone in CMG’s mission to decarbonise the maritime industry through the conversion of maritime waste (MARPOL waste) into renewable fuels, and reinforces our vision to build a cleaner, more sustainable future for The Bahamas and beyond.
Our mission is clear: to create a scalable, commercially viable, and sustainable waste-to-fuel ecosystem, providing alternative fuels and energy solutions for the shipping industry. This funding round represents the culmination of years of collaborative effort with our partners in The Bahamas, and is an emphatic endorsement of our commitment to environmental innovation and infrastructure development.
Backing from Mirova Natural Capital
Mirova Natural Capital is renowned for its focus on high-impact environmental investments that contribute to nature restoration, biodiversity, and climate resilience. Their leadership in this funding round is a testament to the global relevance and potential of CMG’s approach—combining circular economy principles with cutting-edge clean fuel technology.
Local and Regional Partnership
This achievement would not have been possible without the support and contributions of our local and regional partners. To date, our partners in The Bahamas have contributed $3.6 million towards this landmark initiative. This includes a $1.5 million match-funded loan and a $615,000 technical cooperation agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). These investments reflect a shared belief in the importance of building the region’s first Port Reception Facility, fully compliant with the UN’s International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) regulations.
The facility will be the first of its kind in The Bahamas—designed to receive, process, and convert ship-generated waste into renewable fuels in a safe, sustainable, and legally compliant manner. This bold infrastructure project will position The Bahamas as a leader in marine environmental services and clean port innovation within the Caribbean.
Local Impact: Jobs and Economic Growth
Beyond its environmental significance, this project will bring tangible socio-economic benefits to Grand Bahama. The facility is expected to create approximately 45 permanent jobs for local Bahamians, providing long-term employment and skills development opportunities in the clean energy and maritime sectors.
We are deeply committed to ensuring that this facility not only sets a new standard in waste management and decarbonisation but also serves as a catalyst for economic growth and empowerment in local communities.
Looking Ahead
This funding milestone empowers CMG to accelerate development and bring our clean port facility to operational status. As we advance construction and commissioning, we remain focused on innovation, sustainability, and delivering real-world impact—environmentally, economically, and socially.
We are immensely grateful to Mirova Natural Capital and all our supporting partners for their confidence in our vision. This investment represents more than just capital—it is a shared commitment to protecting marine environments, supporting climate goals, and building a cleaner maritime future.
Stay tuned as we begin the next chapter in our journey. Clean Marine Group is ready to lead the charge in reshaping the shipping industry—starting right here in The Bahamas.
